This project involved three mid-career artists placing lengths of white cotton in personally significant places. After 6 weeks I met with the artists, we retrieved the fabric, and discussed the activity in terms of art and pedagogy. I proceeded to create landscape art from the remnants. This was the basis for my PhD dissertation, completed at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I am grateful to the participants, Pat Beaton, Peter von Tiesenhausen, and Robert Dmytruk. I thank my advisor, Dr. Rita Irwin, committee members, Dr. William Pinar and Dr. Dennis Sumara, reader, Neeta McMurtry, and all of the great people who supported this project. Finally, special thanks to Monica Emme who photographed much of the work.
